Surveillance and Flames- BB7 house reflects the Intensity of this years Allstar Competition

Posted by christine on Feb 28, 2010 in Celebrities

?Big Brother,? originally a character in George Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty Four, was a supreme ruler that had control over a totalitarian state. This fictional society that Orwell creates, is described as under complete surveillance by authorities, where ?Big Brother is Watching you.?

In this years CBS Big Brother 7, not only will Big Brother be watching over the houseguests, but viewers are also granted ruling power over the house as they choose their 6 favorite previous houseguests to compete in the ?All-Stars? series. I wonder if this is what Orwell had in mind? Just like propaganda was used to control the population in Orwell’s book, propaganda for houseguests will be coming forth at all angles- people reflecting upon houseguests previous moves in Big Brother forums all over the net, and fans judging them on their past performances by watching past clips, commercials and their promotional videos…. Propaganda for Big Brother Houseguests will be everywhere on t-shirts, flyers, forums, TV…. there is no telling how extreme fans will go… Who will you vote for?

The new Big Brother House will leave nothing to the imagination of the viewer. Surveillance will exist in every corner of the house, along with memorabilia from past shows. The cost of the house… $350,000… with several intense features. The living room is decked out in bright bold colors such as red and orange and a 16 foot tall wall of neon flames will be hard to miss. The wall is said to either ?make you want to drink a cocktail or kill somebody, or both?… a perfect melody of what should reflect the mood of this game- Good versus Evil… These veterans better be careful, as this game in this environment is obviously going to be cut throat and HOT HOT HOT! The kitchen continues the theme of flames but also adds a jail feeling with a solid brick kitchen floor. No wonder houseguests in other countries have gone to psychiatric wards after the show… the intensity of this environment should really turn up the heat of emotions, conflicts, and twists. The last feature of the house is several cases full of memorabilia from past seasons- most likely these items will also stir up some good and bad memories.

The house is monitored by cameras in every room- there is nothing you can’t do without being watched- Orwell’s symbolism becomes reality- everyone being watched 24/7. Make sure you become part of Big Brother and get access to live video feeds straight from the house.

TiVo: A Revolution in Digital Video Recording

Posted by christine on Feb 28, 2010 in Movies

The latest advancement in the recording technology has transcended all boundaries and has brought convenience to your doorstep. The top American channels can be accessed and viewed at your leisure with the TIVO or the Digital Video Recorder.

A common term that is synonymous with TIVO is ?personal video recorder? (PVR). The latter is a consumer video device which has the ability to capture television programming and store it on an internal hard drive to be viewed at anytime in the future.

No longer do you have to schedule your plans around your favorite television program. Let your favorite shows and programs be watched anytime and watched over and over again.

Having a TIVO gives you the option to select your preferred programs to record either by time, specific program title, or by amalgamation of genre, actors and directors etc. All programs will remain intact until it is manually deleted to give room for newly recorded items.

The capacity of the internal storage is enormous and can accommodate most of your favorite shows. The database of programs available is determined by the customer?s location and their cable/satellite services and is updated daily over the phone or network connection to TIVO control center. The TIVO system is comprised of a non-removable hard drive as well as sophisticated software that allows users to easily program and record their selected shows. The software can even be set to record shows it thinks the viewer may be interested in based on their viewing habits!

You can even pause, rewind, and fast forward the recorded programs just as if you were viewing them on a VCR or DVD player, but there are no messy tapes or discs to keep track of. If you are recording a program, you can still watch it in real-time as well.

TIVO guarantees that the digitally recorded images are received, stored, and played without any weakening in the quality of the image. Videos that are digitally stored will retain the same quality as the day the image was recorded.

TIVO also offers a user rating system where viewers can score the television shows they watch on a scale which ranges from three “thumbs up” or three “thumbs down”. These ratings are then used to further determine the user?s preferences and recommendations are suggested based in part on these ratings.

“Season passes” instruct TiVo to record a show each time it is aired on television regardless of when the show begins, with the option of ignoring reruns. Award-winning features such as ?Wish List? searches and TIVO ?Online Scheduling? have made TIVO a necessity for every household. The home entertainment innovations provided by TIVO surpasses features of a television possessing digital music, snapshot, and picture in picture features. The inlcusion of ?TIVO To Go? allows for the transfer of shows to your laptop or DVD.

You can always be up to date with the current programming on your television as your TIVO routinely will keep you updated with the daily programming. The sophisticated technology combined with the user-friendly navigation allows you to search for programs just by using the remote.

The only drawback of the TIVO system is a minor one. It requires a land-based phone line to ensure successful activation and full functionality of the DVR service. This may be a problem for some customers as more and more people are canceling their land-line phone service and relying solely on their cell phone.

Your television set up is not an issue for you to make a TIVO acceptable to every household. It can be traditional cable, digital cable, satellite, or even combinations of these. TIVO is proving itself as a viable and efficient companion to your home theater system that pledges to be useful and economical.

Xbox 360 Kameo: Elements Of Power

Posted by christine on Feb 28, 2010 in Poetry

Kameo Elements of Power by Microsoft Game Studios is a fantasy adventure themed action game. It showcases the Xbox 360?s graphic muscle. You control Kameo and her power to assume the form of various elemental warriors. Each warrior has their own unique power and abilities. The creature?s abilities are connected to the elements such as fire, earth and water.

When I first got the Xbox 360 this is one of the titles I bought with it. It was money well spent. This game takes a unique approach to the fantasy action platform type of games. You can control many different elemental warriors. You usually have to use two or three of them together in order to solve the puzzles or progress through the levels. A good thing about the different warriors is their different abilities are fun to use. Often characters are thrown in for a specific purpose of a game and not needed later. Each of the warriors are fun and useful during most parts of the game.

To give you an idea of some of the creatures you control I?ll list a few of my favorites. The first character you receive is Pummelweed. He is a vine-like plant creature whose tentacles have red flowers that he uses as boxing gloves. You will continue to go back to him because of his ability to do melee combat. He can also crouch into the ground and then pop up in a super powerful uppercut move. One of my other favorite characters if Major Ruin. This character is an armored creature that looks something like an armadillo. His power involves rolling forward at high speed. This is useful in jumping over gaps and can be useful in defeating enemies. Lastly I would like to mention this game has incredibly fun coop mode. You unlock the multiplayer missions as you play through the single player story mode. You can also play online making this a must have for any fantasy/platform video game fans.

Visual Arts?As Old As Civilization

Posted by christine on Feb 28, 2010 in Miscellaneous

For as long as man has been alive, he has observed the aesthetics and beauty of life. It seems that it is innate in us to create and change and this has been demonstrated throughout the ages. Even the cave man recreated his vision and told a story via stonewalls.

All art is a communication! The artist is creating his/her vision via any artistic outlet such as drawing, painting, sculptures, photography, graphic design or filmmaking etc.

It?s any art we see! The natural landscape is a powerful tool artists have used throughout time. We seem to want to recreate what we are looking at and at the same time change it to put our own nuances and character into it.

Art is not limited to drawing, painting, sculptures etc. There are the living visual arts such as the painstaking shaping of the Bonsai tree or creating the next beautiful hybrid rose. We started with the incredibly gorgeous vintage rose and now we literally have hundreds of different kinds of roses in various sizes, colors and fragrance.

Dancing, figure skating, gymnastics, ballet, and even acting are also considered visual art forms.

You are basically taking something that has been done before, or a piece of life, and are making it new by changing or adding your own character to the piece. That?s all imagination is!

Just in the 20th century alone we have created new forms of art such as art nouveau, pop art, ethnic art to name a few. The subject of art is so vast that there is literally no ceiling to creativity and that is what makes this subject so incredibly interesting.

For as long as man exists, we will find a way to create new and interesting things to look at. It is after all in our nature to do so!
